[Track & Field] Cougar Invitational a Success for Track and FieldPublished by
The Illinois Tech Track & Field athletes fared well at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Concordia University on April 17, 2014. "I was very pleased with the way we all performed today. Once this meet is in the books, we are in the second half of our outdoor season and it seems that we are heading into the right direction", said Head Coach Calin Hantau. On the women's side Veronica Hannink and Anne Crotteau turned in top 3 performances in the 100mH and 3000m respectively. April Wanagas in the 1500m and Amy Rice in the 400m had a good showing, being really close to setting new personal bests. The highlight of the meet for the Scarlet Hawks was the Javelin Throw. Jack Kosar and Joseph Yasin exchanged the school record and the lead in the event three times. In the end, Kosar bettered the previous record by almost 3 meters, winning the event with a 49.20m throw. Yassin had to settle for second with 48.80m to start his day. He was second in the Shot Put and Discus Throw as well. His effort in the Discus Throw was a new school record. Teva Venet won the triple jump with 12.74m, setting a school record in the process. On the track, Sam Wietliespach had a 2nd place finish in the 3000m, with a time of 9:03. This performance improved the school record by 4 seconds in this event. Mitch Martyr continued his good season with a 5th place finish in the 400m, turning in another school record of 52.33. "It was a great day for our men's team. We had athletes scoring in almost every event that we competed in, which is pretty impressive considering the programs that took part at this meet." Illinois Tech Track and Field will travel to Benedictine University for the Twilight meet, scheduled for April 25th. Read the full article at: www.illinoistechathletics.com
