[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Men's Track & Field take eighth at NCCAA Championship

Comments

BOURBANNAIS, IL-- The Spring Arbor University men's Track & Field team competed at the NCCAA Indoor championships over Friday and Saturday, finishing eighth place of 22 teams  setting numerous individual records.

The team finished with 26 points, but Head Coach Dante Ottolini said that he was not concerned with team score this weekend.

"This was a meet intended to help the guys get better," said Ottolini. "It was a good meet. Not just because of the races that went well, but also those that didn't and how guys responded."

Ottolini highlighted individual performances, including Chris Conrad's second place finish in the 800m race. His time of 1:57.5 is his new indoor best and moves him up to 10th on the Spring Arbor record list for the 800m.

"I was hoping to qualify (for NAIA Nationals) but fells .25 second short," said Conrad. "It still was a fun race and I thank God for the opportunity to run."

Kelly Maxwell ran a personal best in the 60m hurdles. He finished fourth with a time of 8.81, breaking the Spring Arbor record that he already held. Maxwell tweaked his back doing block starts in practice the previous day, so he wasn't sure how the race would go this weekend.

"I prayed yesterday and it was a blessing just to have the back loose enough to compete," said Maxwell. "I am thankful for the race, despite not making NAIA Nationals or getting on the podium."

Dewayne Gray ran an incredible race in the 200m with a time of 22.04 and a fifth place finish said Ottolini. Gray's time bested his previous fastest mark in the 200m.

Gray is also the only Spring Arbor athlete who will run at NAIA Nationals which will take place Thursday, March 6 through Saturday, March 8. Gray met the qualifying standard in the 60m dash earlier this season.
