[Women's Cross Country] Lady Harriers finish ninth at NCCAA National Championships, Dracht ...

Comments

CEDARVILLE, OH – Senior Danae Dracht finished fifth and earned All-American honors and paced Spring Arbor University's Cross Country team to a ninth place finish out of 31 teams at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championships.

Dracht completed the 5K course sprawled across the campus of Cedarville University in a time of 18:29.07 and was just over 30 seconds behind Championship winner Kelsey Bruce of Dallas Baptist.

According to the NCCAA, this was the largest race ever in the women's division competing for the Championship.

The NCCAA National Championship in all sports is becoming a very competitive competition as many schools across the Country are making the jump from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).  Most of those schools are joining the NCAA in Division II.

When a school jumps from NAIA to the NCAA there is a probation period and a school cannot compete in the NCAA Championships from a period of 2-4 years, so the NCCAA has become the only post season competition many of the school will be able to participate in.  The Landscape of all of the NCCAA Championships have changed and to finish near the top is an amazing accomplishment.

Kate Jones finished second for the Cougars and in 43rd place overall with a time of 19:31 and Faith Gunderson and Hannah Hoffman finished next to each other with times of 20:22 and 20:24 respectively.  Alison Kiekover was right behind Gunderson and Hoffman in 90th place clocking 20:29.

Kaytlynne Kerwin  finished with a time of 20:43 and Katrina Bean rounded out the Cougars scoring with a time of 21:11 and in 131st place.

"It was a great weekend for the team," said Coach Billy Bippes.  "This marked the 16th time in 20 years that Spring Arbor was able to finish in the top 10 in this race and it was all to God's glory that we are able to do it!"

For the team, the season will come to a close and in head to head competition for the season, the Lady Harriers finished the year with a 58-39 win-loss record.

Danae Dracht season will continue next week at the NAIA National Championship in Lawrence, Kansas.
