Here is a look at the highlights of the regional meets that took place on Saturday across the state.

 

Class 3A

 

Belleville West – It was a bit closer than the Southwest conference when O’Fallon and Edwardsville faced each other in the Girls Meet. O’Fallon held off Edwardsville 24-36. Angela Buch (O’Fallon HS) won the individual title (18:45) by seven seconds ahead of Edwardsville’s Lizzie Lynn. In the Boys race, both #14 O’Fallon and #21 Edwardsville rested runners in anticipation for next week’s sectional competition. O’Fallon took the team title putting 5 runners in the first 12 scoring 35 points. Edwardsville finished second with 54 points behind the individual race win by Wes Schoenthal.

 

Glenbard North – Sara Atkins and Allison McGrath finished 2-4 to lead #10 Wheaton-Warrenville South to a 56-60 win ahead of #8 Geneva. Gabby Juarez (Streamwood HS) won the individual title in 17:02 on the 2.88 mile Camera Park course. In the Boys race, #24 St. Charles East placed 4 runners in the first nine to easily win the team title with 40 points. Geneva was second with 72 points. Kyle Cepeda (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) dominated the individual race running 14:34 to win by 21 seconds ahead of Mark Sciurba (St. Charles East HS).

 

St. Ignatius – Maggie Scholle (Lane Tech HS, Chicago) easily won the Girls individual race at Washington Park. The sophomore’s time of 18:19 was 37 seconds faster than second place Jill Poretta (St. Ignatius Prep, Chicago). #24 St. Ignatius rested some of their top seven, but was still able to win the regional title with 56 points. There was only an 11 point difference between second place Northside Prep and fourth place Lane Tech. Dan Santino (St. Ignatius Prep, Chicago) had the bigger kick winning the individual title in 15:23 only two seconds ahead of Whitney Young freshman Clayton Mendez. #7 St. Ignatius put 4 runners in the first 9 to easily win the Boys regional championship with 39 points. Whitney Young placed 2nd with 75 points. #13 Jones Prep held out some of their top five finishing third with 83 points.

 

Hinsdale Central – Annie Zaher led a Red Devil 1-2-3 sweep as #2 Hinsdale Central placed 5 runners in the first 11 to win the Girls regional championship with 26 points. Zaher’s time of 17:57 was 3 seconds ahead of teammate Grace McCabe. Alexa Haff did not run for Hinsdale Central. #20 Downers Grove North placed 5 in 12 to finish second with 41 points. #18 Downers Grove South finished third. #1 Hinsdale Central was without Chris Brenk or Matt McBrien, but still won the regional title with 44 points led by the second place finish of Blake Evertsen. Ryan Clevenger won the individual race in 14:52, 22 seconds ahead of Evertsen. His team #16 Downers Grove North finished second with 51 points. #4 Lyons Township rested top two runners Connor Madell and Alex Lima. The Lions finished 3rd with 59 points.

 

Hoffman Estates – Led by the 3rd place finish by Ali Gutt, #9 Schaumburg placed 5 runners in the first 12 to win the regional title with 43 points. Their split between 1-5 was 37 seconds. #14 Hoffman Estates was next with 78 points. The Hawks were only 1 point ahead of third place #13 Fremd. Ayako Higuchi (Fremd HS, Palatine) was the individual winner (18:10) only 2 seconds ahead of Prospect’s Brooke Wilson. Zach Dale (Conant HS, Hoffman Estates) had an easy time in winning the Boys individual race. Dale, who will have a showdown with McHenry’s Jesse Reiser at the Schaumburg Sectional, only needed to run 15:24 to win the race. He was 16 seconds ahead of second place David Rodriguez. #12 Hersey packed it up placing 5 runners in the first 8 to easily win the team title with 23 points.

 

Libertyville – Host #25 Libertyville won the team title with 42 points putting 5 runners in the first 15. #23 Warren finished 8 points behind Libertyville in second place. Kaitlyn Ko (Buffalo Grove HS) looks to be back at full strength winning the individual race in 18:49. She was 13 seconds ahead of second place Melissa Manetsch (Libertyville HS). #15 Buffalo Grove placed all 7 runners in the first 15 to easily win the team title with 34 points. Kevin Salvano led his team with the individual win running 15:34 on the rugged 3 mile Adler Park course. Highland Park finished second. With 90 points.

 

Lockport - #11 Lockport ran a tight 34 second 1-5 split led by the 4th place finish by Morgan Bollinger. The Porters won the Girls team championship 33-50 ahead of #17 Neuqua Valley. #22 Oswego finished third. Rachael Lau (North HS, Plainfield) ran 19:05 to win the individual race by nine seconds ahead of Plainfield South’s Alexis Grigg. #3 Neuqua Valley held out their top 6 runners in this race, but still won the regional championship 47-58 ahead of #20 Plainfield South. #18 Oswego finished third with 70 points. Oswego’s Peter Johnsrud won the individual race in 16:04. He was 21 seconds ahead of second place Jack Sebok (North HS, Plainfield).

 

Minooka – Host #12 Minnoka took the first four places to easily win the Girls team title 22-73 ahead of Lincoln-Way Central. Mackenzie Callahan ran 17:56 to edge teammate Ashley Tutt by 2 seconds. #22 Lincoln-Way Central won the Boys team title 33-81 ahead of Minooka placing 5 runners in the first 10. Minooka’s Gabe Ceballos won the regional title (15:34) by 3 seconds ahead of Lincoln-Way Central’s Ian Peterson.

 

Sandburg – Maryclare Leonard (Marist HS, Chicago) smashed the field winning the individual race in 18:00 by 48 seconds ahead of Sandburg’s Casey Jensen. Sandburg placed 4 runners in the top 7 to win the team title 28-43 ahead of Marist. #2 Sandburg rested their top six runners but still placed 6 runners in the first 10 to easily win the team title 24-78 over Oak Lawn. Caleb Washington (Shepard HS, Palos Heights) edged Greg Burzinski (Sandburg HS, Orland Park) by 1 second (15:15-15:16).

 

Palatine – Lauren Van Vlierbergen (Jacobs HS, Algonquin) just this regional as a tune-up for the next two weeks. Van Vlierbergen and Kelly O’Brien (Palatine HS) ran a swift 5:20 opening mile. Just before two miles, the Jacobs senior opened it up pulling away from O’Brien winning by 24 seconds (17:08-17:32). #3 Palatine looked strong placing 6 runners in the first ten to win the regional title 27-79 over #15 Lake Zurich. Jacobs finished third. Jesse Reiser (McHenry HS) ran a conservative first half of the race. A series of small surges in the last mile was enough to give him a 5 second win ahead of Matt Pereira (Lake Zurich HS). Reiser’s winning time was 14:47. Led by Pereira’s second place finish, #10 Lake Zurich ran a 16 second 2-5 split to win the team championship 52-67 ahead of McHenry. Only 2 points separated third place Barrington, fourth place Palatine, and fifth place Crystal Lake South.

 

Rockford Guilford – The 1-4 finish by Kelly Meehleib and Chloe Smith was enough to give Huntley a 40-43 win over Hononegah. Meehlieb’s winning time of 18:03 was 38 seconds ahead of 2nd place Janelle Ferguson (Auburn HS, Rockford). The margin was also close in the Boys race. Hononegah’s 5 runners in the first 11 off set Huntley’s 3 runners in the first 5 for Hononegah to win the team championship 35-38. Keagan Smith (Huntley HS) easily won the individual race (15:03) 33 seconds ahead of Hononegah’s Jared Christiansen.

 

Lake Park - #1 Glenbard West had no trouble winning this Girls regional title. The Hilltoppers placed 6 runners in the first 11 to win 24-70 ahead of York. #19 Fenwick finished third. Glenbard West rested Lisa Luczak for this race. Lindsay Graham took the lead at 400 meters and never looked back. She crossed the line in 16:44 some 41 seconds ahead of teammate Lindsey Payne. The Boys race had more of a dual meet feel with #5 Glenbard West and #9 York dominated the front of the race. York’s Charlie Kern passed Glenbard West’s Chris Buechner with 500 meters to go then rolled to an eight second win (14:58-15:06). Even though Glenbard put 4 runners in the first 7, it was York’s pack that was the difference. The Dukes placed 7 runners in the first 15 and ahead of Glenbard’s fifth runner to tie 35-35. York won the meet on the 6th runner tiebreaker. Oak Park-River Forest finished third.

 

Andrew – Joliet West took the first three places in route to the Girls regional title 33-78 ahead of Lincoln-Way North. Charlotte Youell won the individual race in 19:13. Lincoln-Way North placed 5 runners in the first 9 to win the Boys regional team title 29-53 ahead of Joliet Central. Raul Rosendo (Joliet Central HS) won the individual race (15:37) by 8 seconds ahead of John Chomiak (Lincoln-Way North HS, Frankfort).

 

West Chicago - #4 Naperville North won the Girls team championship 24-48 ahead of #6 Naperville Central. The RedHawks were without normal #1 runner Rachel Hoffman. #7 Batavia finished third with 66 points. The Huskies placed 5 runners in the first 9 with a 21 second split. Freshman Emma Stephens (Batavia HS) won the individual title (18:05) five seconds ahead of Claire Hamilton (North HS, Naperville). It was a close team battle in the Boys race between DVC rivals #11 Naperville North & #17 Naperville Central. Even though the Huskies placed 4 runners in the first 7, Central placed 5 in the first 17 to win the team championship 46-48. Brady Bobbitt (Marmion Academy, Aurora) won the individual title running 15:25. Geoffrey McCullough (Central HS, Naperville) was six seconds back in second place.

 

Loyola Academy – #5 New Trier placed 6 runners in the first 11 to easily win the team championship 24-70 ahead of Loyola Academy. Maine South edged Glenbrook South by 1 point for third (93-94). Mimi Smith (New Trier HS, Winnetka) showed she is ready to defend her state championship. The senior ran 17:18 to win by 57 seconds ahead of Kathryn House (Loyola Academy, Wilmette). #8 New Trier looked god placing 5 runners in the first 10 to win the Boys team championship 32-67 ahead of #19 Maine South. #6 Loyola Academy ran without top runner Jack Carroll. They packed it up to finish third.

 

Class 2A

 

Antioch - #3 Lake Forest took 3 of the first 4 places to win the Girls team championship 31-59 ahead of Lakes. Grayslake Central was third. #25 Richmond-Burton finished fourth. Kortney Schardt (Lakes HS, Lake Villa) won in 19:17. She was 22 seconds ahead of second place Emma Milburn (Lake Forest HS). Jack Aho easily won the individual title and led #10 Grayslake Central to a 28-79 win over Lake Forest. Aho’s winning time was 16:00. The Rams placed 4 runners in the first 7.

 

St. Viator – Fenton won the Girls regional championship 33-41 ahead of host St. Viator. The Bison placed 4 runners in the first 8 led by the individual win by freshman Jessica McCauley. Fenton also won on the Boys race 22-35 ahead of St. Viator taking 4 of the first 5 places. Fenton’s Axel Nava won the individual race in 16:43.

 

Rosary – It was perhaps the roughest of all the 2A Girls regional races. #18 Rosary finished seventh missing qualifying by 5 points. #5 Lemont won the team championship 56-90 ahead of #13 Glenbard South. #12 Montini finished third with 114 points. #15 Wheaton Academy was three points back in fourth (117 points). #20 Aurora Central Catholic, paced by the individual win by Karina Liz, finished fifth with points. #24 Nazareth Academy scored 125 points to place sixth and get the final qualifying spot for the sectional meet. Liz won the individual race in 18:49. She was 26 seconds ahead of Rebecca Sippel (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn). #18 Hinsdale South surprised #6 Wheaton Academy 33-49 for the Boys team title. Wheaton Academy was without top five runner Mitchell Smith. Charlie Nodus (Hinsdale South HS, Darien) ran 16:10 to win the individual race by 19 seconds ahead of Wheaton Academy’s Brandon Lach.

 

Belvidere - #7 Belvidere North rebounded from a tough conference meet putting 5 runners in the first 11 to win the Girls team title 28-75 ahead of #8 Marengo. Sterling finished third with 94 points. They were 1 point ahead of #14 Rockford Boylan who ran without #2 runner Grace McLaughlin. Jenna Lutzow (North HS, Belvidere) ran 18:11 to finish 8 seconds ahead of Caitlyn Allen (Marengo HS) to win the individual race. #9 Belvidere North took 3 of the first 6 places to win the Boys team title 37-49 over #11 Sterling. Dixon finished third with 94 points. Eryk Yunk (North HS, Belvidere) won the individual title running 15:47. He was 7 seconds ahead of 2nd place Jon Landis (Sterling HS).

 

Chicago University – Host Chicago University placed 5 runners in the first 7 to easily win the team title 19-72 over Noble Street / Munchin. U-High’s Elsa Erling was almost a minute ahead of her competition to win the individual race (19:39). Lindblom was boosted with six of their seven runners either freshmen or sophomores. They won the team championship placing 6 runners in the first 10 winning 28-31 over host Chicago University. U-High’s Jacob Meyer won the individual race (15:29) by seven seconds ahead of Walmer Saaverda (Lindblom HS, Chicago).

 

Danville – Host Danville won their own regional 61-91 ahead of Charleston. The Vikings were led by the second place finish by Mercedes Elliott. Mattoon’s Megan Shaffer was 15 seconds ahead of Elliott winning the individual title running 19:00. The #17 Salem Boys team is starting to get used to close finishes. Last Monday, they won their conference title by 1 point. It was the same margin as they won the region 52-53 over #16 Danville. Champaign Central finished third with 86 points. #19 Charleston finished fourth. Caleb Hummer (Danville HS) ran 15:37 on the rugged Kickapoo State Park winning by 36 seconds ahead of Champaign Central’s Ashton Hyatt.

 

Deerfield - #9 Latin School placed five girls in the first ten to easily win the team championship 28-60 over Deerfield. Latin’s Abigail Nadler ran 18:25 to win the individual race by only 8 seconds ahead of Yanel Robledo (Mather HS, Chicago). #25 Deerfield put 6 runners in before #18 Latin School’s fourth runner to win the regional boys championship 40-53. Payton Prep was third. Mather’s Robel Yemane ran 15:50 to win the individual race by three seconds ahead of Billy Anderson (Deerfield HS).

 

Galesburg - #2 Dunlap placed 3 runners in the first 5 to hold off #10 Peoria Notre Dame 33-40 for the regional title. Maryjeanne Gilbert (Notre Dame HS, Peoria) continues to run great. She ran 17:48 by almost 90 seconds ahead of Dunlap’s Abby Jockisch on the tough Lake Storey 5k course. #13 Rock Island Alleman placed 5 runners in the first 13 but it was the 1-2 finish by Matt Carr and Thomas Thornton that gave #21 Bartonville Limestone a narrow 47-48 win. #24 Peoria Notre Dame finished third. Carr’s winning time of 16:37 was 6 seconds ahead of teammate Thornton.

 

Jacksonville - #19 Chatham-Glenwood placed 4 in the first 8 to win the Girls team championship 39-60 ahead of #23 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin. Emma Chelsvig (Jacksonville HS) won the regional title in her final race on her home course running 17:46. She was 16 seconds ahead of Aly Goff (Springfield HS). #7 Springfield won the Boys regional championship 31-61 ahead of #12 Chatham-Glenwood. #15 Sacred Heart-Griffin was 7 points back in third place. Springfield’s Heath Warren won the individual race (15:07) four seconds ahead of Lincoln VanMeter (MacArthur HS, Decatur).

 

Illiana Christian – Illiana Christian won the Girls team title 27-63 over Tinley Park. Bremen’s Lilydian Tolbert ran 20:28 to win the individual regional championship. #3 Illiana Christian took 4 of the first 5 places to win the Boys regional championship 24-71 ahead of Bremen. Illiana’s Nick Fiene ran 15:54 to finish 2 seconds ahead of teammate Nick Wondaal.

 

Morris – LaSalle-Peru took 3 of the first 4 places to win the Girls regional championship 35-55 over Joliet Catholic. Megan Krolak (LaSalle-Peru HS) edged Morris freshman Mya Shannon to win the individual race. Both were timed in 18:35. Lincoln-Way West dominated the Boys team competition. Led by individual winner Evan Mitchell, they placed 4 in the first 7 to win 34-70 over Providence Catholic. Mitchell ran 15:49 to win by 4 seconds ahead of Diamonte Ugbesia (Rich East HS, Park Forest).

 

Normal University - #11 Normal University won the girls regional championship 48-76 ahead of #17 Mahomet-Seymour. The Pioneers were paced by the 3-4 finish of Shannan Supan and Madigan Landess. #22 Washington, Normal West, and Metamora finished 3-5 separated by only five points. #2 Mahomet-Seymour placed 3 in the first 5 spots including a 1-2 finish by Alex Keeble and William Wolf to win 39-57 over #5 Metamora. #22 Normal University finished third. Keeble’s winning time was 15:05 on the Maxwell Park course.

 

Riverside-Brookfield – Host Riverside-Brookfield won the Girls regional title 24-44 over Solorio Academy placing 4 runners in the first 6. Samaya Lewis (Brooks Academy, Chicago) ran 19:31 to win the individual race. Riverside-Brookfield placed 5 in the first 9 to easily win the Boys team title 29-60 over Solorio Academy. Matt Przeslicke (Evergreen Park HS) ran 16:24 to win the individual race.

 

Troy Triad – Led by the individual win by Abigail Richter, host Troy Triad won the Girls regional championship 62-80 ahead of Breese Mater Dei. Richter’s winning time was 19:29. Waterloo edged Carbondale 87-91 Carbondale behind the 1-2 finish by Waterloo’s Lance Mueller and Cole Rodenberg. Mt. Vernon finished third with 100 points. Only 3 points separated places three through five with Troy Triad 4th and Mascoutah 5th.

 

Woodstock – The toughest of all the regionals in both races. #1 Yorkville placed all 7 of their runners in the first 12 to win the Girls Regional championship with only 28 points. #6 Crystal Lake Central was next with 68 points. #4 Vernon Hills placed third with 88 points. #21 Kaneland was fourth. Skyler Bollinger ran 18:42 to win the individual title by 9 seconds ahead of Vivian Overbeck (Vernon Hills HS). Jake & Luke Hoffert pulled away from Shane Williamson (Vernon Hills HS) to go 1-2 in the individual race. Jake Hoffert’s winning time was 15:43. #1 Yorkville placed 4 runners in the first 14 to capture the regional championship with 49 points. #4 Vernon Hills finished second with 74 points. #8 Crystal Lake Central was only two points behind in third. #14 Prairie Ridge was next with 104 points. Kaneland and Sycamore took the final two qualifying spots. Burlington Central missed qualifying by 3 points. Woodstock missed qualifying by 6 points.

 

Class 1A

 

Aurora Christian – Lisle Sectional top ranked Chicago Christian won the Girls regional championship 48-74 over Westmont placing 4 runners in the first 9. Harvest Christian Academy was third only six points behind Westmont. Becca Wert (Aurora Christian HS) ran 18:48 to win the individual race. In a tight 3 team battle in the Boys race, Harvest Christian Academy won the regional title with 57 points. Montini Catholic finished 2nd with 67 points. #20 Westmont finished third two points behind Montini. Tanner Chada (Aurora Christian HS) ran 15:45 to win the individual race by 16 seconds ahead of Nick Dea (Westmont HS).

 

Benton – Harrisburg edged Frankfort 31-32 for the Girls regional title. Leslie Drone (Hamilton County, McLeansboro) was impressive in winning the individual race. She ran 18:57 and won by 91 seconds ahead of Taylor McDaniel (Harrisburg HS). Fairfield placed 5 in the first 9 to easily win the Boys team title 24-56 over host Benton. Corbin Kakac (Fairfield HS) dominated the individual race winning by almost two minutes ahead of teammate Billy Martinez.

 

Carlinville – Defending 1A champion #2 St. Teresa used a 2-4-9 finish by Lauren Evelti, Bree Tschosik, and Ashton Jerger to win the Girls regional championship 54-93 over #15 Shelbyville. #16 Litchfield was third 8 points behind. Mt. Zion was fourth ahead of #21 Carlinville. Megan Bailey (Mt. Zion HS) was 12 seconds ahead of Evelti to win the individual race in 18:24. #10 Shelbyville dominated the Boys race placing 5 runners in the first 8 to win 28-80 over #16 Mt. Zion. #21 Carlinville was next with 85 points. Curtis Reed (Mt. Zion HS) ran 15:15 to win the individual race by 6 seconds ahead of Marcus Skinner (Shelbyville HS).

 

St. Thomas More – Arielle Summitt and Annemarie Michael (University HS, Urbana) went 1-2 in the individual race, but it was the 5 runners in the first 11 that was the difference as #5 St. Joseph-Ogden won the regional championship 36-67 ahead of #8 Monticello. #1 Urbana University finished third with 80 points. They were nine points ahead of #9 Tolono Unity. Summitt’s winning time of 17:51 was 14 seconds than that of her teammate Michael. Defending 1A state champion Jon Davis (Oakwood HS, Fithian) showed that he is ready to defend his title. He set a course record 14:52 to win the individual title by 19 seconds ahead of Eric Ponder (Tuscola HS). #2 Monticello edged #1 Tolono Unity 35-44. The Sages placed 5 runners in the first 12 behind the third place finish by Matt Norvell. Their 1-5 split was 31 seconds. Unity was close placing 5 in the 14 spots. Their five runner split was 45 seconds. #9 St. Joseph-Ogden finished third with 81 points. #15 Paxton Buckley Loda finished 4th with 105 points. #17 Urbana University was fifth.

 

Chester - #23 Herrin defeated #17 Carterville for the first time this season 74-95 to win the Girls regional championship. Murphysboro and Sparta were only separated by one point for third place. Keri Burmester (Red Bud HS) won the individual title in 19:11 ahead of teammate Deanna Deterding by 19 seconds. Sparta edged Nashville 60-61 for the Boys regional title behind the 2-6 finish by Dylan Huether and Trevor Buckner. Harrison Thomas (Carterville HS) ran 16:34 to win the individual race.

 

Luther North – Willows Academy was strong in winning the Girls Regional title 23-43 ahead of North Shore Country Day. They placed 5 runners in the first 8 led by the second place finish by Maeve Dunaway. Isabella Wolke (Christian Liberty Academy, Arlington Heights) to win the individual race in 19:06. Only 12 points separated the first three teams in the Boys race. Upstart DePaul College Prep placed 5 runners in the first 13 to win the regional championship 44-50 ahead of Northridge Prep. North Shore Country Day was third with 56 points. Peter Conroy (Northridge Prep, Niles) ran 17:18 to win the individual race by six seconds ahead of Michael Rodriguez (Holy Trinity HS, Chicago).

 

Effingham St. Anthony – The win by defending state champion Anna-Sophia Keller led her school St. Anthony to a 65-93 regional championship win 65-93 ahead of Olney-East Richland. Keller ran 17:22 to win the race by 2:21 ahead of Lexie Davidson (Newton HS). #14 Robinson, led by the individual win by Noah Tennison, won the Boys regional title 63-73 ahead of Teutopolis. Tennison’s margin of victory was 17 seconds ahead of Grady Wilkinson (Mt. Carmel HS).

 

Farmington – A 42 second 1-5 runner split and a 7th place finish by Kaytlyn Golding pushed #14 Rock Island Alleman to a 50-59 Regional championship ahead of #4 Eureka. #12 Elmwood-Brimfield placed third with 71 points. Nicole Beebe (Canton HS) ran 17:31 on the 2.95 mile course to win the individual championship by 49 seconds ahead of Shelby Siltman (Olympia HS, Stanford). Defending 1A champion #5 Elmwood placed 4 runners in the first 7 to easily win the team championship 32-79 ahead of #13 Tremont. #18 Stanford Olympia scored 97 points to place third. #23 El-Paso Gridley was only four points back in fourth. Matt Osmulski (Elmwood-Brimfield HS) ran 15:21.97 to win by 6 seconds ahead of teammate Nate Herridge.

 

Freeburg - #7 Freeburg put 5 runners in the first 9 to easily win their Girls regional with 25 points. They were more than 70 points ahead of Belleville Althoff Catholic and Roxana. Emily Marler (Freeburg HS) ran 19:32 to win the individual title and finish 14 seconds ahead of teammate Ashley Gilmore. The story was the same in the Boys race. #7 Freeburg placed all 6 runners in the first 9 to easily win the regional 23-101 over Colombia. Freeburg’s Jonathan Kraus ran 16:42 to win by 11 seconds ahead of teammate Charlie Parrish.

 

Kankakee McNamara – Daly Galloway (Gardner-South Wilmington HS) dominated the individual race running 18:17 to win by 76 seconds ahead of Katie Kleinert (Central HS, Clifton). Paced by Kleinert’s finish, Clifton Central won the regional championship 42-54 ahead of Prairie Central. Beecher put 4 runners in the first 12 to power them to a regional title 61-93 ahead of Prairie Central and Cullom Tri-Point. Brandon Wilkerson (Tri-Point HS, Cullom) won the individual title running 15:59. He was 9 seconds ahead of second place Sirlaurence King (Leo Catholic HS, Chicago).

 

Macomb – The 3-4 finish by Karla Mendoza and Ashley Plumb was enough of an edge to give host #24 Macomb the regional championship 59-69 ahead of Monmouth-Roseville. Lewistown finished third. Carly Garnett (Illini West HS, Carthage) won the individual title in 18:48. She was 16 seconds ahead of Ericka Hibser (Lewistown HS). #24 Macomb also won the Boys regional championship. They placed 3 runners in the first 5 to win 39-57 ahead of #25 Monmouth-Roseville. Mercer County scored 60 points to place third. Nathan Ault (Monmouth-Roseville HS) ran 16:24 to win the individual race ahead of Austin Jackson (Mercer County HS, Aledo).

 

Peru-St. Bede - #13 Seneca’s 4 runners in the first 10 was enough to give them the Girls regional title 42-58 ahead of #18 Illinois Valley Central. #10 Henry-Senachwine finished two points behind IVC in third place. #25 Fieldcrest placed fourth with 101 points. Demi Johnson (Illinois Valley Central HS, Chilicothe) edged Eva Bruno (Seneca HS) by 1 second to win the individual title running 19:30. Illinois Valley Central won the Boys title 69-80 over Henry-Senachwine. Fieldcrest and Ottawa Marquette finished 3-4 both scoring 91 points. Al Baldonado (Hall HS, Spring Valley) ran 16:17 to win the individual race by 14 seconds ahead of Levi Schmillen (Fieldcrest HS, Minonk).

 

Quincy Notre Dame – The closest team race of the day was in this regional’s Girls race. #3 Petersburg PORTA edged #6 Rochester 33-36 to win the team title. Liberty finished third with 89 points. PORTA was paced by the 1-2-3 finish of Maria Brauer, Anna Tamborski, and Adrienne Brauer while having their 5 scoring runners in the first 14. Rochester matched that placing their 5 scoring runners in the first 11 led by the 4-5-6 finish of Madeline Campbell, Ellie Tjelmeland, and Taylor Bartolozzi. #11 Rochester dominated the Boys race placing 5 runners in the first 9 to win the regional crown 26-74 over #12 Pleasant Plains. Tyler Johnson (Pleasant Plains HS) won the individual championship running 16:06. He was ahead of second place Michael Gleason (Rochester HS) by 12 seconds.

 

Rock Falls - #11 Kewanee-Annawan Wethersfield appears ready to challenge for a trophy in 1A Girls. They looked good placing 5 runners in the first 10 to win the regional championship 33-77 ahead of Erie-Prophetstown. Sterling Newman and Bureau Valley finished 3-4 and were within 5 points of each other. Kirstie Ramsey (Wethersfield HS, Annawan) ran 18:21 to win the individual race by 45 seconds ahead of Haley Weidner (Bureau Valley HS, Manlius). #8 Sterling Newman placed 4 in the first 9 to easily win the Boys regional title 38-70 over host #19 Rock Falls. Brayden Hamblen and Seth Williams dominated their home course going 1-2 in the individual race. Hamblen’s winning time was 15:27.

 

Winnebago – Woodstock Marian was a surprise winner in the Girls regional race. Led by the individual win by Abigail Jones, they placed 3 runners in the first 5 to win 41-60 ahead of #19 Winnebago. #22 Byron placed third with 76 points. Jones won the race in 17:32. She was 45 seconds ahead of second place Delaney Pruitt (Johnsburg HS). How close can you get in the Boys team race? #3 Rockford Christian and #4 Winnebago both scored 40 points to lead the team battle. It was Rockford Christian’s depth was the difference as they placed 6 runners in before Winnebago’s fourth to win the regional crown. #6 Johnsburg was also close scoring only 48 points. The individual race was just as close as Nathan Smith (Winnebago HS) ran on his home course for the final time and won. His time of 14:33.5 was last than a second ahead of Nick Monkemeyer (Rockford Christian HS).
