Switch to track pays for Husker weight thrower

Brett Suckstorf, a Wayne State transfer who was a top athlete at Pierce, made his way to Nebraska last year.  “I went to Wayne to be a pitcher and that didn’t work out, so I tried track,” he said. “Eventually, a coach got me into throwing the hammer (a 16-pound weight at the end of a 3-foot long wire), and the indoor weight (shorter line and 35 pounds).

“The throwing coach left there but said I could compete in Division I and Nebraska said I could transfer,” he said.  Since then, after working with throwing coach Mark Colligan and the NU strength staff, Suckstorf, a former Division II champion, has already notched an NCAA Division I qualifying throw.
