McDonogh MD Standout Wins 55m, 200m and 300m At The Armory By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Elise Cooper appears to be primed for a big junior indoor season after ripping through three events on Saturday at The Armory in New York at the JAMBAR Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational. Cooper, a junior at McDonogh School of Maryland, ran a personal-best 6.95 seconds to win the 55 meters, 23.57 to win the 200 and 38.44 to win the 300 on a busy day in Washington Heights. All three are early US#1 performances. McDonogh was a finalist in the 100 meters and 200 meters at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last spring, running 11.55 for third in the 100 and 23.31 for fourth in the 200. Matt Schutzbank of Nyack NY won the boys mile in 4:17.67 for the fastest time so far in the indoor season. David Davitt from Archbishop Stepanic ran 1:04.17 to win the 500 meters with a U.S.-leading time. Henry Koike-Sieira from Hunter College ran a US#1 time of 9:14.69 to win the 2-mile. In the boys 55-meter hurdles Yashahya Brown from Washington Township NJ ran 7.13 seconds for the win and a No. 1 ranking. Caroline Elliott from South Lakes VA dropped a US#1 time in the girls mile, 4:53.12 and edged Abby Downin of Tatnall School DE by nearly two seconds as the sophomores went 1-2. Morgan Rothwell from Bullis MD won the girls 500 meters in a US#1 time of 1:13.92. Sharlyn Ramirez Castillo of Riverdale Baptist MD ran a US#1 time of 54.47 in the 400 meters. Union Catholic NJ's Taylor Cox ran 7.95 seconds to win the girls 55-meter hurdles for a US#2 time. Gabriella Vizacarrondo from Nanuet NY threw a US#1 mark of 50-7.75 to win the girls weight throw. |
