Arkansas, Iowa State Both Secure Pair Of NCAA D1 Regional Titles

Michigan, Michigan State battle to split decision at Great Lakes Regional

For the Arkansas cross country programs, sweeping the men's and women's team titles at the NCAA Division 1 South Central Regional has become an annual affair.

For Iowa State, capturing a pair of championships at the Midwest Regional was a program first, equaling the significant success of Oklahoma State in 2005 and 2015.

Arkansas secured both regional titles for the fifth consecutive year, with the Razorbacks prevailing 59-73 over Texas A&M in the men's 10-kilometer race and placing all seven athletes in the top 15 in the women's 6-kilometer race in a 35-93 victory over Texas.  RESULTS

Nikki Hiltz and Carina Viljoen took the top two spots for Arkansas in the women's competition, with Hiltz winning in 19 minutes. 35.5 seconds and Viljoen clocking 19:36.

Tulane junior Emmanuel Rotich won the men's race in 29:49.1, with Arkansas placing its five scorers in the top 25.

Midwest Region  RESULTS

Iowa State took advantage of racing at home in Ames and had five scorers in the men's race in the top 25 to follow its Big 12 title with a 69-74 victory over Oklahoma State.

The Cyclones put three runners in the top 11 in the women's competition to hold off Oklahoma State by a 90-103 margin.

Reigning NCAA champion Karissa Schweizer of Missouri prevailed in 19:50.9. Illinois sophomore Jonathan Davis won the men's race in 29:06.2.

Great Lakes Region   RESULTS

Michigan and Michigan State split the two races, with Ben Flanagan securing the individual victory in the men's race for the Wolverines in 30:54.

Indiana junior Katherine Receveur won the women's competition in 20:34.9, followed by Michigan's Gina Sereno (20:38.9) and Jamie Morrissey (20:39.5), who helped the Wolverines secure a 71-87 victory over Michigan State.

Despite Flanagan's triumph, the Spartans held off Michigan by a 68-79 margin.

South Region   RESULTS

Mississippi qualified both teams automatically, with the Rebels capturing the women's title with a 59-73 victory over Georgia, led by Samantha Drop securing the individual win in 19:40.9 over reigning NCAA indoor mile champion Karisa Nelson of Samford (19:43.4).

Middle Tennessee State held on for a 71-76 win over the Ole Miss men's team. Alabama was third with 95 points, as Gilbert Kigen (29:44.5) and Alfred Chelanga (29:47.1) took the top two spots.

Northeast Region   RESULTS

Despite Syracuse star Justyn Knight stopping during the race to tie his shoe, he still rallied to edge teammate Colin Bennie by a 31:43.4 to 31:44.9 margin, leading the Orangemen to a 28-48 victory over Iona.

New Hampshire senior Elinor Purrier won the women's race in 21:20.8, with Providence capturing the title 84-115 over Dartmouth.

Southeast Region   RESULTS

Furman automatically qualified both teams, posting an impressive 55-109 men's victory over Virginia Tech. North Carolina State edged the Paladins by a 68-83 margin in the women's competition.

Charlotte junior Caroline Sang won the women's race in 20:05.8, with Lawrence Kipkoech (28:45.3) and Amon Kemboi (28:53.8) taking the top two spots in the men's competition for fifth-place Campbell.

Mid-Atlantic Region   RESULTS

Despite a victory from junior Bella Burda in 20:01.5, Villanova finished second in the women's race to Penn State by a 31-60 margin.

Princeton prevailed 57-109 over Navy in the men's race, with Georgetown junior Jonathan Green securing the individual win in 30:28.3.
