PALO ALTO, Calif. – Despite significant rain throughout the two-day Stanford Invitational, the inclement weather didn’t prevent Dana Hills junior Evan Noonan and the Shea Volkmer-led Campolindo girls lineup from pouring it on the competition with state-leading performances at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Noonan achieved the lone high school meet record of the event, running 4 minutes, 6.80 seconds in the 1,600 meters Saturday to prevail against Palo Alto senior standout Grant Morgenfeld (4:10.23).

Noonan eclipsed the 2022 performance of 4:08.67 achieved by Kyle Ortega-Gammill of Reno High in Nevada, taking advantage of one of the few extended stretches on the meet schedule without rain.

Volkmer won the girls 1,600 in 4:47.95, prevailing by nearly 10 seconds against Kylie Hoornaert (4:57.52) from Saratoga Prospect High, but it was her impressive anchor leg Friday that helped Campolindo achieve a state-leading 11:57.26.

Kate Kabenina, Claire Andrzejek, Daisy Penney and Volkmer, who anchored with another 4:47 split, briefly held the national lead, before Lucas Lovejoy High from Texas ran 11:53.26 later Friday night at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Campolindo ran its fastest time since 2015 and produced the No. 2 mark in program history.

Tatum Olesen prevailed in the 800 meters in 2:11.21, in addition to helping Menlo-Atherton finish second in the DMR in 12:26.52.

Carmichael Jesuit also achieved the state-leading performance in the boys DMR, with Matthew Ogilvie, Caleb Dixon, Lucas Alberts and Drake Hoferer running 10:22.48.

Paul Kuhner of Lafayette Acalanes, Keelan Wright from Temecula Chaparral, Gigi Kirchner of Rocklin and the dynamic duo of Myles McFarland from Cosumnes Oaks and Inderkum’s Rickey Green III all thrived under much more favorable racing conditions Saturday in the sprints and hurdling events.
