The Western Ohio Officials Invitational at Ohio Northern University was the first meet of the season in Ohio, and Justin Welch (Eastwood, Pemberville, OH) wasted no time in taking the opportunity to start his season off well.

Welch, a senior headed to the University of Georgia, threw a new personal best of 76'06.00" with the 25-pound weight.  He also placed first in the shot put.  Last year, Welch ended his season on a high note with a personal best of 76'01.00".  He finished the year ranked third in the nation behind national weight throw record holder Conor McCullough (Chaminade, West Hills, CA) and Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley, Slate Hill, NY).  With the graduation of McCullough, Welch looks to compete against Faldermeyer to be the best in the nation this year.
