Kendall Baisden (50.46) has continued her progress from last season as a freshman at Texas. She has recorded six of the fastest ten times. She finished third at the NCAA meet, another event better than many national championships, in 51.32. She has international experience from finishing 6th at the 2011 World Youth meet and helped the US world junior 4x400 team win the gold medal in 2012. The US is so strong in this event, the US has 7 of the top 9 on the world list. World junior #2 Shamier Little (51.06) is running in the 400 meter hurdles and #3 Shakima Wimbley (51.68) will join Baisden as the favorites for a US 1-2 after Wimbley has improved nearly 2 seconds this year. Gilda Casanova of Cuba has run 52.28 and 2:02.50 in the 800 meters this year, huge improvements in both events. Genet Lira of Ethiopia has run 52.40 this year
