Point Grey senior men win national cross country title; women field first team at nationalsPublished by
The Point Grey senior men are the top cross country club in the country, after winning their first national title last Saturday at the Canadian Cross Country Championships, making up for a disappointing third place finish in last year's edition.
They won decisively, scoring 22 points, ahead of Running Room Athletic Club (51 pts), and Toronto Olympic Club (54 pts), last year's champions.
Luc Bruchet led the way, placing 5th overall (30:06), and earning a spot on the Canadian team for the World Cross Country Championships next year in Poland. Bruchet previously ran at World's in Poland as a junior, in 2010.
Kevin Friesen was next across the line (22nd; 31:27), with a pair of Ryans - Huff (24th; 31:30) and Brockerville (26th; 31:37) - coming in shortly after to complete the scoring.
Samuel Pawluk (28th; 31:46), Tim Huebsch (31st; 31:51) and Dylan Gant (37th; 32:19) counted towards displacing as well.
The men have two more years at home to defend their title, in 2013 and 2014.
Another significant landmark was achieved Saturday, as Point Grey fielded its first ever women's team at the national cross country meet. They placed sixth in the club competition.
Point Grey also had competitors in the men's Masters competition - Carey Nelson (13th) and Robert Watt (37th).
Point Grey TFC is committed to fulfilling its mission of providing the environment, opportunities, and resources for athletes to continue to develop throughout their careers. The recent successes are a great testament to the work we're doing, and a sign of things to come.
