Athlete Blogs - Ka'Deem Wynn: Going For The Wynn (Update #2)

Hey everyone! I can’t believe that it’s been a week already since my last update. I guess that means that I’ve been keeping myself busy.

To recap, last week was my first real week of training for my senior season. After those sand hills and biking on Monday, I had a recovery day on Tuesday. With it being a cool morning, it was easy to enjoy running through the trails of Graham Swamp. Running with my teammates and coach biking alongside, we crisscrossed through trails and neighborhoods as we always do, ending with 70 minutes for about nine miles (8.90). After the run, coach Halliday had us do regular, inclined, and declined push-ups.

Wednesday featured the highlight of the week. It was my first workout that was a bit longer, and one that I typically had never done well in: Stepping Stones. Eight times around a simple mile loop. The goal? Consistently drop your pace about 10 seconds or so each mile while remaining in control the entire time.

Let’s just say that it ended very well.

After the workout, I talked to my coach after about something we had previously discussed a few times before. With all of the biking that I had been doing, which had been since the beginning of track season until now, my legs have gotten stronger than I thought. On Monday, he told me that when we do longer workouts like Stepping Stones (which he knows is probably my weakest workout), I will feel a lot different and stronger.

He was right.

Granted, the pace wasn’t too crazy to begin with, but it was the way that my teammates and I ran it, and how we finished it, which wasn’t crazy either. The whole workout felt relaxed, and it was a major confidence booster for me personally, since my last two cross country seasons haven’t been what they could have been.

Wednesday ended with some planks and lunges.

Thursday was another long run, only with a fair amount of hills. This time it was a bit shorter, a 60 minute run. After the run, it was more pushups.

On Friday, I was back at it, with this workout being alternating miles. This is actually one of my favorite workouts, so I had a little fun with it.

I took yesterday off, and during that time, I was doing some more searching for SAT and ACT testing dates. If all goes well, I’ll be taking the SAT December 5th of this year. My reason for choosing a later date is because I don’t want it to conflict with my cross country schedule. In regards to the ACT, I have to wait until July 1st to see which test dates are available.

Along with test searching, I’ve gotten back to my college searching. It’s not set in stone, but I’ve grown an increased interest in Arkansas State University. A couple months ago, I got a letter from one of the coaches there, asking me to fill out a questionnaire, which I did. Though I will keep searching, I think it’s safe to say that ASU is probably on my list of top five choices.

I ended the week solid. Earlier this morning, three teammates and I met up for an eight mile run. In addition to that, I also biked a total of 8.60 miles.

This week, I logged a total of 50.73 miles. A solid increase from last week.

That's all I have for this week! I hope you all enjoyed reading this second entry. I still have a long road to run down, but I’m just taking it stride by stride.
