USA has not won the World Junior Meet for 10 years.  This year Trayvon Bromell of the US won the NCAA title, a tougher race than most national championships, in a WJR 9.97.   Bromell has raced at a high level since indoors and this has been a very long season.  He is not alone as one of the top competitors though and he has shown that he can be fragile.  He had to bail out of attempting to qualify for the 200 meters at the NCAA championships after his hamstring bothered him at the Big-12 conference championship meet.  In fact, he lost to high school sensation Trentavis Friday in his semifinal but Friday false started out of the final and Bromell won the final in 10.00.    

Yoshihide Kiryu (19) of Japan tied the old World Junior Record last year at 10.01 and has run 10.05 this year.  Two years ago he set the World Youth Record (10.19) and is just .01 off the Japaneese national record and .02 off the Asian Continent record.  He has had many international races and will draw upon that experience.  Anguilla's Zharnel Hughes won the Jamaican high school championships (Boys and Girls) in 10.12 despite a poor start.  This could be a great race.
