Wanjiru aiming high
(UKPA) – 1 day ago
Olympic champion Sammy Wanjiru has outlined his plans to break the marathon world record currently held by Haile Gebrselassie.
Gebrselassie plans attacking his own time of two hours three minutes and 59 seconds in Dubai on January 22, but Kenya's Wanjiru believes he has the ability to succeed Gebrselassie and is adamant he can do so next September over the same fast course in Berlin where his Ethiopian rival set the mark.
"I want to defend my London Marathon title in April and then my plan is to break the world record in Berlin," said Wanjiru, who will turn 23 next week.
"I feel very positive that I can do it and will be concentrating and making it my main target for next year.
"It is a hard record but I feel I am capable of doing it."
