Freier clears pole vault bar at 14-6

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Justin Northwest TX senior Desiree Freier upped her personal best on Thursday to 14-6 in the pole vault. Even though the meet was part of the outdoor schedule she made the clearance indoors because the event moved inside when it started to rain. (Her mark has been entered into TFX as an indoor mark). SEE IT HERE

Freier was competing in her UIL 5A District 3/4 Area Meet in Coppell on Thursday. Not only did she clear 14-6 on a synthetic turf surface with no runway, she also had a near-miss at 14-9.

Freier has already gained the high school indoor and outdoor records this season but the improvement from 14-3.25 at the Texas Relays to 14-6 constitutes a significant step forward.

"We will see if they count it," Freier said. "I would assume (it could be) an indoors (record) maybe."

Regardless, the news is clear. Freier improved upon her record and has more opportunities to do it again soon. The UIL 5A Region I prelims are next Friday.
