US#1, state record for St. Xavier boys 4x8

State Meet Highlights

The OHSAA Track and Field Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium is one of the biggest state meets in the country – producing more than 1,300 DyeStat Elite marks. There are three divisions based on school size. And the big population in the state ensures depth throughout. St. Xavier's distance runners provided the biggest splash with a US#1 and all-time state record in the 4x800 relay.

- The St. Xavier boys quartet of Michael Hall, Brad Eagan, Evan Stifel and Michael Vitucci broke the all-time state record in the 4x800 relay with 7:36.33 in the D1 finals. (That's 1:54 per man). Top Teams:

Glenville reigned supreme in the D1 boys chase for the team title with 40 points, while Solon edged Pickering Central by one point 47-46 for the girls crown.

Meadowdale's girls won the D2 team title with 40 points. Dunbar took home the boys championship with 47.

In Division 3, the margin was very close for the girls team title. McDonald scored 45 points to edge both Tinora (44) and St. Thomas Aquinas (44) by a single point. Lima Central Catholic locked down the boys title with 52 points.

Top Competition:

Ohio as a state produces exceptional hurdlers. I'm not sure what the reason for that is. But it seems to be true. And in Division 3 this year there was a tremendous competition between senior Jack Lint of Columbus Academy and junior Chad Zallow of Warren JFK. In the 110 highs, Zallow ran US#15 13.93 to beat Lint (14.20). In the 300s, Lint ran US#4 36.32 to easily win while Zallow ran 38.23 for second. Additionally, Zallow ran on a third place 4x200 and fifth place 4x400 relay that included his brother, Carl. Lint placed third in the long jump and was part of a seventh place 4x400 relay team.
