Huskies hope to continue success at UW Invitational | The Daily

After a week off, the Washington indoor track and field team returns to Dempsey Indoor this weekend for its second tournament of the indoor season at the UW Invitational.

The UW Invitational has tougher entry standards than the UW Indoor Preview, which the Huskies hosted Jan. 18, meaning the UW will have to be on top of its game against the improved competition.

“Our goal is to compete,” head coach Greg Metcalf said. “To be better than we were two weeks ago.”

If the Indoor Preview was any indication of things to come, then the Huskies as a team, especially the UW women, have to like their chances heading into this weekend.

The UW women’s indoor team moved up two spots to No. 18 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings this week due to strong pole-vaulting performances by junior Diamara Planell Cruz, who won the competition, and freshman Elizabeth Quick, who finished in a four-way tie for third place at Dempsey Indoor.
