Nike Oregon Project Shines Bright in Seattle

By Scott Bush

The University of Washington hosted their seasonal kick-off event Saturday, the UW Indoor Preview, where the Nike Oregon Project showed they are ready for a big 2015. Here are some of the highlights of what went down.

Rowbury, Hasay Throw Down

Coach Alberto Salazar loves to challenge his athetes, especially when he knows they are ready to race. The trio of Shannon Rowbury, Jordan Hasay and Treniere Moser lined up in the womens 1000m and mile, ultimately showing they are each in fantastic shape - especially considering it's only mid-January.

In the 1000m, the pace went out extremely quick and ultimately never relented, as all three NOP athletes broke the meet record, with Rowbury winning in 2:40.25. Hasay finished second in 2:41.08, while Moser finished third in 2:41.50, just ahead of Stanford freshman Elise Cranny, who finished fourth in 2:42.39.

All three came back to run the mile and to the surprise of most in attendance, the trio again went out fast and never held back. The ultimate result was Rowbury pulling off another win in 4:27.86, breaking the facility record set by Olympic medalist Sally Kipyego.
