helpppp! :(

i need some advice...im a sophomore in high school and i run sprints and hurdles. my coach was great and we were all really close with him.last year our team really made a name for itself when my 4x4 team won first place at penn relays! it was a big deal since our school is only a couple years old. anyway, what our coach really wanted to do was teach and our school wouldnt offer him a job, so he quit and got a teaching job at a school in another county. We were devastated that he left us, but it got even worse when we found out that he was going to coach their track team. this really freaked us out because now we had no coach. the xc coach is now our head coach and one of the soccer coaches is helping him out. unfortunately, the soccer coach has nooo freaking clue what shes doing and the xc coach turned track coach doesnt have enough experience to lead the whole team. we're all scared for this season because we know these coaches arent going to be able to help us and we're basically going to be coaching ourselves, plus it seriously blows because none of our seniors are coming back to run this year and tons of the upper classmen have already quit when the season only started on monday. i dont know what to do. also, the stupid xc coach decided he wants to run a mile warmup, which may help the distance kids but definitely wont help the sprinters. what we used to do with our old coach was a quickly paced 800 and then a dynamic warmup with drills to help stretch us out and get warm, but a mile wont do anything for us besides tighten us up and make us more tired. so what should we do?i dont know how to go about this. my coach deserves respect, but as a team we have a right to let him know when hes doing it all wrong.

yeahh like mondays are our big workout days and then we do more workouts every other day, but theyre normally not as hard as our 200 workouts

this past monday we only did 8, which was super easy. my coach thought 12 would be too much for the new kids

I've heard of college 400 guys doing as many as 20 (!) 200's in a single workout. I'm currently doing 12 on Wednesdays as part of Fall conditioning work. But I think that 16 is a little excessive at your level, even for fall conditioning. I really don't believe in doing over 10 during ANYTIME of the year since I don't feel doing 12 200's has really helped my sprint-endurance. Do you do shorter workouts on the other weekdays?

actually yeah. on mondays we always do like 16 200s.

How many 300's and 400's does he have you do? As you'd read in one of my blogs, a coach of mine had me do stuff like 12x200 and 8x400,8x300(!). Does your coach have you do insanely large amounts of intervals like this?

Hurdle Machine,

Best wishes on your indoor season. As a distance coach the endurance workouts will make you a better hurdler. Take Care. - - Coach Jack PS. I'm reading this - so don't think no one will.
