About Event
This is is the premier racing event in the Estes Park area. We have
a race for everyone, from the KIDS FUN RUN! on the Saturday afternoon
in downtown Bond Park, through to the main races on Sunday - a 5K, 10K,
half marathon and full marathon. in 2009 we will also be introduicing a marathon team relay fund raising for the American Cancer Society. The races take place at 7,500 feet
above sea level, so oxygen is pretty rare! Foolowing on from our success last year, we are contin uing with the emphasis on "family friendly fun." All the races are challenging, but
like many other things in life, if you treat the situation with respect
you'll get to enjoy it a whole lot more! The KIDS FUN RUN! is in
downtown Estes at Bond Park, and starts at 2.00pm. The runs get
gradually longer depending on age of the child - one loop is 200m, and
the longest run does 8 loops. Loads of support for the racers, and
educational and interactive activities afterwards, with help from YMCA
of the Rockies, National Park Service, and many others. Information on
the RMNP environment and recycling and composting, as well as games and
an obstacle course. Sounds so good I think I'll give it a try myself! The
courses, expecially half marathon and marathon, have some magnificent
views - truly breathatking. Estes is a great place to stay - come and
spend a weekend here and savour the clean clear air and connect with
the mountains. You can book online through Active.com or on the
marathon website. You'll find that entry fees are less than usual
races of this type. There is a great quote on the race from
MarathonGuide.com:
“Do this run to celebrate all that you love about running...and to experience the grandeur of a spectacular part of the world.”
That just about sums it up - we hope to see you!
