Human Race - Eugene

Eugene is Tracktown, USA and center of the running universe.  As the birthplace and spiritual home of Nike, it was only fitting we had a fantastic turn out for our Human Race partnership fun run on 8-31-08.  At the Eugene Running Company we had runners and walkers covering distances between 3 and 19 miles, all to help support the three Human Race charities - World Wildlife Fund, The Lance Armstrong Foundation and Nine Million dot org. We had our Joe Henderson Marathon Team belting out a long run as training for the upcoming Portland Marathon, we had Baby Boot Camp moms running and walking with their babies, we had our familiar group of Sunday morning regulars and they were joined by nearly 100 new faces.  It was the day the whole world ran and we hope you did too!  By my count, we had at least three members of the canine race participating alongside the Human Race.

For everyone that lives in Eugene, don't forget to come out Thurseday night and cheer on the Duck XC Teams in Alton Baker Park at 6pm.

Who Are We...

The Eugene Running Company Marathon Team Saturday 7:00am The Eugene Running Company Marathon Team

The Eugene Running Company Marathon Team (sponsored by Aquarius Water) is Training for the 2007 Portland Marathon on October 7.

We invite you to join us! Whether you’re a first-time beginner or an experienced marathoner, it’s generally more fun and more effective to join the camaraderie of others and receive expert coaching for your journey of personal achievement.

About our coaches:
Jil Mestler is a busy mother with three beautiful children and still has the time and energy to run a sub-three-hour marathon. As a star high school runner in Enumclaw, Washington, she was a state champion on the track and National Junior Olympic Champion in Cross Country. She enjoyed a successful collegiate career at the University of Oregon where she earned her bachelors degree in Exercise and Movement Science. She also holds a Masters Degree in Human Biology from Pacific University.

Laura LaMena-Coll is a retired international class long-distance runner. She represented the USA seventeen times as a member of the National Team, including the World Cross Country Championships, World Cup of Track & Field, IAAF World Championship Road Race and Pan American Games. Runner’s World magazine ranked her among America’s top ten road racers in the early 1990s. She ran her marathon personal best of 2:39:37 at the 1991 International Women’s Marathon in Nagoya, Japan. Laura is an owner of the Eugene Running Company.
